The SLEX‑FLEX format uses a structured versioning system called the ICS Series (ITISIAN Compression Standard). This system ensures stability, clarity, and predictable evolution of the format across technical, developer, and community implementations.

1. Version Structure

Versions follow a three‑tier numeric pattern:

ICS‑MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH
  • MAJOR: Structural changes to the format (rare).
  • MINOR: Additions or refinements that do not break compatibility.
  • PATCH: Small corrections, clarifications, or documentation updates.

2. Current Version

ICS‑1.0.0 — Initial release of the SLEX‑FLEX standard.

3. Version Categories

  • ICS‑1.x.x: Stable SLEX‑FLEX format, reversible, one‑line encoding.
  • ICS‑2.x.x: Reserved for future structural expansions (multi‑line variants, optional metadata blocks).

4. Update Philosophy
